Mac Dobson Joins Aries Conlon Capital Originations Team

June 5, 2017

Rushi Shah, principal and CEO of Aries/Conlon Capital, is pleased to announce that Mac Dobson has joined the firm’s Originations team as senior vice president.  Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dobson will focus on originating non-recourse bridge and permanent financing for hotel, retail, office, self storage, industrial and multifamily properties nationwide, as well as expanding the national boutique investment banking firm’s SBA 504 and 7(a) financing services. Aries/Conlon Capital will maintain its primary focus of originating non-recourse bridge and CMBS debt, with the added capability of SBA financing.

“We are excited to once again expand our client financing options by welcoming Mac and his specialized skills and experience to our Aries/Conlon Capital team,” said Shah. “Mac has developed a reputation as a trusted advisor and a tireless advocate for his clients with over a decade of experience originating, underwriting and closing $500 million in financing.  He will focus on originating non-recourse bridge and permanent debt and preferred equity financing, but as the former lead originator for one of the largest issuers of SBA loans in the country, he is an invaluable resource for property owners who are refinancing to non-recourse capital market debt or looking to close on new SBA financing for their property.”

Mac Dobson Aries Conlon CapitalBefore joining Aries, Dobson led Bank of America’s Midwest SBA platform, overseeing 504 and 7(a) lending.  Prior to that position, Dobson worked for ValStone Partners, a private equity fund that focuses on commercial real estate-secured distressed debt, along with hospitality and senior housing development. During his tenure, Dobson served on the fund’s investment team that underwrote and structured the acquisition of senior housing properties throughout the country, managed 2,000+ units of stabilized senior housing, and oversaw a strategic leveraging of the firm’s investment portfolio to drive returns.  Dobson started his commercial real estate career in the credit area of SomerCor 504, Inc., a Certified Development Company in Chicago, quickly rising to lead originator.

“I am incredibly excited to bring my experience, relationships, and commercial real estate knowledge to the Aries/Conlon Capital team,” said Dobson.  “The SBA world can be very esoteric, and it’s often difficult to accurately measure the capabilities of each lender – how aggressive they are with advance rates, what property attributes they like and dislike, what markets they target, and how they prefer to work with borrowers. I look forward to leveraging my expertise to address these challenges and ensure faster and more favorable SBA closings for borrowers, as well as opening the door to creative non-recourse structured debt financing options for existing and new clients nationwide.”

Dobson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado, and a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance, Economics and Entrepreneurship from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Dobson will split his time between Ann Arbor and Aries/Conlon Capital’s Chicago headquarters, and can be reached at mdobson@conloncapital.com or by phone at (734) 604-6962
